For the second time in a year, footballing rivalries between Lincoln City and Macclesfield Town are put aside as both clubs come together in grief. Almost a year ago, the two clubs joined to mourn the passing of manager Keith Alexander. Yesterday, one of Keith’s most loyal and committed players also passed away, at the tender age of just 29.
Fans of Lincoln City will always remember Butcher, who had three spells with the Imps, as being an integral part of Alexander’s team that reached 4 successive League 2 playoffs between 2002 and 2005. Always a committed midfielder, Butch was a driving force of that team and could be relied upon to give his all in every game. In his three spells with the Imps, Butcher made 123 appearances, scoring 12 goals. In his career, he also played for Northampton Town, Rushden and Diamonds, Kettering Town, Oldham Athletic, Peterborough United and Notts County.
Rest in Peace, Butch
